To tie-in with his new Dream Division LP for Polytechnic Youth, Tom McDowell delivers a mixtape of deep dark interstellar grooves

Tom McDowell tunes us into celestially-slanted sounds from Damaged Bug to Moon Duo, via plenty of likeminded extra-terrestrial sonic stopping-off places en route.

Liner notes by Tom McDowell:

My new Dream Division LP, Transcend, follows the idea of travelling the universe and leaving this planet, but not physically. What if you could send your conscious across the universe to another world and have it loaded into an android host unit? The mix is a broadcast from Earth’s ‘Interplanetary Space Base Hotel’ and whilst you’re waiting for your universal voyage across the stars this is your soundtrack.

Bio:

Since 2016, the London-based Tom McDowell has primarily been trading under the one-man operations of Dream Division, an exploratory synth-driven vehicle for his meticulous refashioning of retro-futuristic sci-fi soundscapes and 80s horror-film scores. After a clutch of rapidly selling-out self-released cassette releases and a pair of lathe-cut 7” singles, McDowell has unveiled his acclaimed and long-awaited full-length vinyl debut with the conceptually-framed Transcend on the ever-reliable Polytechnic Youth.

In addition to Dream Division duties, McDowell forms one-half of Chiba alongside Jack Harris, to delve into murky raw Oh Sees-meets-John Carpenter psych ‘n’ darkwave mash-ups. Currently with two EPs to their name, the twosome are currently working on an inaugural Chiba album.

Besides continuing to spend his day-job time behind the counter at Rough Trade West, McDowell is also preparing to bring the Dream Division live experience back again this Halloween at the Tom Thumb Theatre in Margate for the Death Waltz Halloween Party on October 31st.
